There is detailed information about the features of different Windows 7 versions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions#Comparison_chart

But what about the performance? Is there any site that benchmarks different Windows 7 versions on same machnines and compare its performance, ram usage etc ?? Thank you

Note: I have a machine having "Intel Atom Dual Core N550 1.5GHZ, 2GB RAM"

For the most part, all the editions of Windows 7 share the same code. So the benchmarks would be mute.

What would more significantly affect resource usage is what OS you want to use, what third party programs you use(very important), etc etc.

i'm going to say there is no such benchmarks.

Different editions of Windows add features which take up resources but also make Windows faster, e.g.

DWM (Desktop Composition) uses an extra 22MB of memory, but makes the user interface more responsive, as well as helping performance of video playback and 3D applications. Adding great value with minimal increase in resource usage.

In the end the features, while requiring resources, add value. And in any higher edition of Windows the features can be disabled to emulate a lesser edition of Windows.

My father, for example, refuses to let the video card accelerate his user interface or video playback (Aero). i'm sure he's saving resources, but he's making Windows run worse.
