I know some of the manufacturers have features like setting charge threshold in their products. This feature prolongs battery life by preventing user from charging to 100%. And I would like to know if ASUS models can do just that. Unfortunately I cannot find any useful information about it. Any ideas?

By the way, I'm using ASUS U31, which boasted 10 hrs of battery life but... actually lasts 5 hours of normal usage

Battery life is always half or advertised in the real world, I heve never seen anything other than a IBM/Lenovo notebook with that battery feature. I drain my battery to 35% and remove it when I use it for extended periods on AC power. I think all notebooks should have the threshold feature. – Moab Apr 17 '11 at 23:08

I was searching for the same answer for a very long time. I spent about 3 hours straight looking for this information, and once I found a tool that was supposed to change the threshold, it caused me to have to buy a new battery (it essentially bricked that part of the batteries memory) -.-

My advice is to stay away from third party utilities regarding laptop power consumption, and if this advice is well followed, then it is impossible to change the threshold on ASUS laptops

BTW, Moab is right about battery life. It's almost always about half what it's advertised to be.

Experience: A p50ij ASUS laptop and 1 dead battery

Thanks. Although its not the answer I originally sought, I think I'll just stay away from it. But I'm also intrigued by what "malware" did you use? – Tony Apr 18 '11 at 4:27
