The problem is, when inserting a picture to the body of an outgoing email, Outlook 2010 seems to automatically resize the picture to a different size than it really is (as it is displayed correctly in Windows Explorer, Windows Photo Viewer, Paint, or Photoshop, for example).

Here is an image that can reproduce this problem easily:

enter image description here

Try inserting this image to an outgoing email body, it will be shrunk to a much smaller size. This is a straight-forward image out of my Nikon camera, shrunk to a smaller size (680x455) using Photoshop CS5, no tricks about it.

It seems in trying to determine the size of the inserted picture to display in the message body, Outlook is depending on the information of physical size (in inches) embedded in the picture, which is misleading because it is associated with the resolution (DIP) of the picture. What Outlook should depend on, instead, should be the number of pixels in width and height of the picture, which always remain the same.

This is really a trouble. Why can't Outlook provide a easy option to just display the image in its original size (as in Windows Explorer)? Please help!

I have the same problem, but i don't know the answer. What i do know is that as far as i can tell, the problem occurs when you are having your reading pane smaller in width, then the image you are displaying. Outlook automatically reduces the size of the image displayed to your reading pane. If you would open this email (new window) and maximize it, then i am sure you would have image displayed in its original dimensions - as far as original image is of course smaller then the window/reading pane you are watching it in.
