I'm looking for a Linux-controllable camera or Linux-compatible webcam that can produce native resolution photos in the 8MP+ range.

The computer needs to be able to trigger the capture and download the resulting image.

Any ideas?

You might look in to a Canon point & shoot that supports CHDK, a third-party firmware. CHDK is very extensible and includes functionality for simple triggering over USB.

I've considered it, or even just use the actual powershot SDK, but I'm not sure it'd be reliable enough to use in a hand-off remote location. – Lokkju Apr 23 '11 at 4:02
