I need to image a 500GB disk (as in 480GB of storage used on a 500GB disk). How long would this take with eSATA (a modern SAN or NAS)?

This depends on a lot of things, especially the specific hardware in question. – Shinrai Apr 29 '11 at 21:58
Take a look at newservers.com jumbo server. It is in that case I am trying to get an example for. – blade1 Apr 29 '11 at 22:25

It depends on multiple factors: the drive's connection, if NAS the network, the drive's RPMs, the drive's interface, the OS, the imaging software, whether you're doing any compression or encryption of the image, whether the image is bit-for-bit or optimized, if you're doing a live or offline image, the available RAM, the speed of the disk you're saving the image to, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. – TuxRug Apr 29 '11 at 22:45
