I think KMplayer is work but it's work for KDE but not for GNOME

If KMplayer works, I would try SMPlayer. It works with GNOME because that's what I have. [Also works on XFCE]

Merge the two subtitle files. I have never seen a player that can display both. (And anyway, it's faster to merge a thousand file than having to install a new player, and load both files every time.)

(Sorry if this won't qualify as an answer, but I still think, this is the solution.)
