For video's ranging between 40mins to 2hours, normally between 700Mb and 1.6Gb in AVI and MP4 format what is the most optimum video format to use for compression, quality and compatibility?

@hozza, a specific answerable question might be, "What video format would give me the smallest file size given this specific bit rate for video?" Even that isn't a good question but it has an answer. – CarlF May 4 '11 at 21:31
