Help! I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.7. After an intense session of work (with lots of windows open mostly in Keynote, some Numbers, and lots of Google Chrome), my WindowServer memory usage goes up to 1-2GB.

After quitting EVERYTHING, it's still stuck at 1.02GB ("Real Mem"; 1.23GB "private"; 2.03GB "virtual")

I tried running iFreeMem, but it has no effect at all on WindowServer.

I have a total of ONE folder on my Desktop. (Someone suggested the issue might be too many items on Desktop.)

The only way I can flush this service is a restart/logout.

Is there ANY other way to recover this RAM?

This seems like a major memory leak.

Searched everywhere, but can't find solution ...

Thanks!

Not that I recommend it, but what happens if you force-kill WindowServer from a Terminal window? – Randolph West May 6 '11 at 6:14
Tried that! It results in a reboot! – Ze'ev May 6 '11 at 18:39
Is this not a memory leak caused by one of the applications you're using, I wonder? – Randolph West May 7 '11 at 19:16
