Since iPhone OS 3.0, the spotlight search will be triggered when you press the Home button at the first page of app. People found spotlight useful and use it all the time, I maybe an exception, but for me it is very annoying.

I always try to reach the first page of app by pressing the home button, and sometimes I thought I didn't press the button hard enough (probably my iPhone theme cause some UI laggishness), then I press it again. Many times the spotlight comes out because it was effectively a click to the first page, then a click to the spotlight page, so spotlight comes out!

Is there a way to disable this method of triggering spotlight? Did I miss any cydia app which disable spotlight search?

Diago, thanks the link there and thank you for re-opening the question. I think in this case it falls under what TheTXI said in his answer to that question, in that its an OS X question on the iPhone (not a phone or mp3 question). To me it's like trying to disable say Windows search on Windows. I think it is computer related. Thanks again. – Pauk Aug 24 '09 at 19:13
Good to know this question is opened again, I also think it is a valid computer related question. I am sure SU will refine its definition of "computer related" along the way. – deddebme Aug 25 '09 at 11:19

  1. jailbreak iPhone
  2. install NoSpot

More info...

And here's another article describing jailbreaking and NoSpot (pretty much the same as the "on NoSpot" link, above).

Hope this helps!

As far as I can tell: no. You could go to Settings -> General -> Home and set double-click to "Home" as well. Then, just double-click the home button, that should always work. That'll probably get rid of your single-click "did-I-get-it" anxiety too.

Not the perfect answer, but it's all I got.

If I set double click to Home, then iPod won't be triggered if it's running in the background Moreover, it'll still jump to spotlight even I set double click to Home, since i always non-intentionally press home at the first page of the springboard. – deddebme Aug 25 '09 at 11:15
