Just did a Search. In the Search field, I typed

MAYO

I'm looking for a file with "mayo" in the name somewhere. The problem is that the file I wasn't to find is somewhere under a FOLDER with Mayo in the name, and the Search returns every single file in the Mayo folder.

I know I can do a filtered search by looking for

name: mayo

but why would I ever want my search results to include the path?

Generally search works in the broadest way possible it is up to you to further narrow it down. However could see that as being useful if I didn't know I file name but I knew what folder it resided in. Although I am still missing where the question is here? Just a rant? – Kyle May 6 '11 at 19:07
The answer is.....because? – Blomkvist May 6 '11 at 19:15
That's not a real question, it's a rant. Voted to close. – slhck May 6 '11 at 20:41

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

Try searching with filename:pattern. See the documentation for the query syntax for the full list of search operations.

Why does Windows 7 Search show me every file in a folder? . why would I ever want my search results to include the path

Explaining why Micrsoft developed a program a certain way is off-topic. I have wanted and used this many times. If you don't like it, you could use an alternative.
