On Windows or Mac, I really like how itunes manage my list of Podcast. It can download the latest episode while deleting past ones and collapsing an entire series in its own group. I also like how easy it is to have a customized list of my favourite Internet radio station.

I used Rhythmbox on Ubuntu but it does all the above in a very wonky sometimes hit or miss way. Can anyone recommend a music player on Ubuntu which can do the above perfectly?

gPodder

gPodder: Available in most Linux distributions, FreeBSD, Windows and on Maemo-based devices (e.g. Nokia N800 and N810).

more options at the LinuxAppFinder page.
Update: moved the other reference to a new answer so the popular one floats up.

Good and simple. Launches much faster than Amarok – Nicolas Raoul Aug 30 '10 at 7:56

Amarok has support for internet radio and for downloading/managing podcasts.

Radio Player UK is good for internet radio. You can play podcasts and live radio on it. It is a toolbar for your browser.

Currently using banshee. Not 100% sure about the internet radio list though.

Banshee supports internet radio (at least, the mp3 based stations I use). – salmonmoose Sep 1 '09 at 1:39

CastPodder

CastPodder is technically a Media Aggregator, a program that allows you to select and download audio files from anywhere on the Internet to your desktop. okia N800 and N810).

I think its a bit old, but you will find a lot of options at the LinuxAppFinder page.

It's not quite an app which downloads the podcasts for me but I am now using Google Reader to achieve what I want. If I'm following a podcast on Windows, then move to another OS, I can use my podcast feeds in Google Reader to tell me what the latest episodes are.
