I might want to find some good OCR applications.I was wondering which environment has better OCR applications: Ubuntu, or Mac/iPad, or Windows?

For Ubuntu, all I know are open-source applications.

For iPad/Mac and Windows, I vaguely heard there are some applications, but I don't know anything about them and guess many may be commercial.

But compare all of these applications, free or commercial, under different OSes, what are among the best currently? And under what OS are they?

I particularly hope that Ubuntu and/or free/open-source solutions can be comparable to their commercial counterparts.

Thanks and regards!

So actually you just want the best OCR application, and don't care about the OS it runs on? Why don't you just say so? – Daniel Beck May 14 '11 at 6:08
You get me. I also hope that Ubuntu and/or free/open-source solutions can be comparable to their commercial counterparts. – Tim May 14 '11 at 6:10
