I have a Clevo W170HN, which has a S/PDIF port on it (3.5mm jack size). I want to connect this to my headphones, which use an optical Toslink connector.

I bought this adapter cable, but when I plugged it in (and unmuted/enable SPDIF output) I didn't get the red-light shining through the cable. Looking into the jack, I can't see any LED in there, only the metal contacts.

Looking an amazon, all the adapters seem to assume both ends are optical. (But I don't think mine is)

Do you know where I can get an adapter for 3.5mm to toslink that has the LED built into it?

because Toslink is an optical format, but since my laptop's digital output seems to provide a digital (voltage based) output instead. I need the adapter to have the Red LED to convert it. – Ali Lown May 14 '11 at 13:32
