By default on Mac on the Desktop the Desktop folder is rendered. Is there any way to change this? I can't change the name of the Desktop folder and the create a new one. I could hide the files using this command: defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false but then the Desktop wouldn't be rendered at all. Is there any kind of thing like spaces for Desktop, so there would be multiple Desktop spaces but all in the same folder?

Not that I know of - though in Hyperspaces you can choose to hide desktop icons on certain spaces. Bash script for swapping contents of ~/Desktop and ~/Desktop 2, anyone? – Lri May 17 '11 at 13:48
