For a particular workspace how can I say that when the workspace is in 'Full' mode only gvim is displayed (either others are hidden or gvim is automatically selected due being 1 window per full) and when in any ohter modes VIM doesnt show at all (i.e. only terminals show)

Is there any specific reason you want to do it this way? Why not just put your terminals on one workspace, and gvim on another workspace (using whichever layouts you desire)? – Cedric Staub May 19 '11 at 17:21
I agree with Cedric, different windows showing for different layouts is what different screens were made for. Either that or just keep the window that you want to appear large as the one selected before going into Full mode. – Robert Massaioli May 20 '11 at 4:30
