Hey everyone, I recently built my brother a PC but due to limited funds I had to make due with the best I could throw together, I got him a cheaper board that would support all the parts and also so that I could use the bit cash for the other components.

He is very stoked about all the components except the motherboard, arguing that it is too small, and that it will have a big performance effect on his PC.

GIGABYTE H61M-D2P B3 SOCKET 1155 MOTHERBOARD

Transcend™ 4GB Jetram DDR3 1333 DIMM 9-9-9 X2 (8 Gig RAM)

Intel® Core i7 2600 3.40GHZ 8MB Cache SKT 1155

Thermaltake LitePower™ 700Watt 2 Year warranty

GIGABYTE NVIDIA GTX570 OC Graphics Card 1.2gb DDR5

Western Digital™ 2TB SATA 3.5" With 32MB- 5400RPM

Thermaltake® V5 Black Edition Chassis W/handle

I can't imagine that the current PC as it stands here will be THAT much different if you replaced the board. I would imagine the only reason one would want to get another board is for SLI etc... anyway maybe I'm wrong? etc.

This is a very subjective issue - the answer depends on so many factors. – Linker3000 May 23 '11 at 19:17

Arguing that the board is 'too small'? Just because the board is not a full-size ATX doesn't mean it won't work fine. I see absolutely no problems with that board. – Bandit May 23 '11 at 19:55

Since the question was closed, here is the short answer: "No, you will not notice a performance difference". That answer does have a lot of caveats that would take a while to explain. – Doltknuckle May 23 '11 at 19:57
