I have a home-theater PC I set up with XP Pro SP3 for use with XBox Media Center. For this I purchased a MCE remote and grabbed the MCE remote drivers from here.

I noticed once I did this my boot time increased dramatically (I had optimized using black viper's guide). Boot time from cold start was ~20 seconds w/o the IR receiver plugged in, and with the USB receiver plugged in it's ~40 seconds.

I tried bootvis from Microsoft and did notice the driver was listed as hanging for a while during boot. I can also confirm this thanks to the Core 2 Duo whining issue that occurs when the processor is idle.

How can I further debug the driver hanging issue and fix this?

Does the extra time happen when the "Windows XP" loading screen appears, or before that happens? – francisswest May 25 '11 at 23:14
It's right after the boot screen goes away. It'll sit there at a black screen for ~20 seconds before the normal welcome screen comes up and auto logs me in. – Parrots May 26 '11 at 0:44
Then it makes no sense that its the remote. Have you tried to see what happens when you take out the remote and boot? – soandos May 26 '11 at 1:54
I know, my thought too. Yes, that was what lead me to believe it was the remote. If I unplug my IR receiver I get ~20 second cold boot. Plug it back in I get ~40. Rinse, repeat, same results. – Parrots May 26 '11 at 2:01
