I have a .dot word template, and I want to generate a document (.doc) out of it. How can I do that? Except doubleclicking the .dot file.

1 Answer

Just save it in "doc" or "docx" format (File > Save As).

Actually, if you double-click on a template, it automatically acts like you are creating a new doc/docx-file. So the first "Save" is a "Save as" [/nitpicking] – cularis May 27 '11 at 9:14
Thank you, cularis, but I've already knew that :) . @Mehper C. Palavuzlar, when I open a template file, the VBA scripts don't run. They run when I doubleclick the .dot file. So I think that something else except "save as .doc" has to be done. – Bogdan0x400 May 27 '11 at 12:57

@Bogdan, you probably should edit the details of the macros in to your question so we can help you more effectively. It could be an AutoNew macro, which will run when a new file is created (ie, from double-clicking the template) but not when opening the template directly, or saved files created from it. – DMA57361 May 27 '11 at 14:22
Save as Word Macro-Enabled Template (.dotm), but I don't think this option is available in Office 2003 (you mentioned .doc and .doc) – Nicu Zecheru Jul 4 '11 at 18:28
