Right, I have an XFX 8600GTS Geforce Graphics card plugged in a PCI-E Slot in my computer. My on-board graphics works and when I try to plug the monitor cable in the G card, the screen wont load up. BUT... Sometimes my on-board graphics wont work and when I try to plug the cable into the G card, it will work. I've had my pc up and running with my G card in and it'll work fine and it'll recognise the G card. When I get my card working (sometimes, every month or so.. :/) It'll just bugger up when I turn my computer off. I have tried changing the monitor, cables ect and nothing.

Any questions, just ask.

Any help is appreciated thank you!

Have you checked the BIOS to see which input will be the default input. This could cause some weirdness. Also, check to make sure that the card is enabled to be used in the BIOS. (This should be automatic) You might want to update your BIOS... – David Jun 8 '11 at 19:50
I've checked the BIOS and there's nothing really there lol but updating the BIOS sounds good, will give that a go and come back to you thanks. – Josh Jun 8 '11 at 19:54
What happens if you disable the onboard graphics card? (delete it from Device Manager), reboot and try using the secondary card? If this works for an extended time, it may rule out the 2nd card not receiving an adequate power supply. – Steve Jun 10 '11 at 4:55

How do the capacitors look on the graphics card? Is it getting consistent power from the PSU? What is your resolution set at?

They all look fine, a few a purple and some are silver, not quite sure what colour there suppose to be. Yes it is, the fan is spinning on the G card and I have the 4 pin connector connected. – Josh Jun 8 '11 at 20:56
Also, my resolution is set at 1280 by 1024 – Josh Jun 8 '11 at 20:56

4-pin? Are you sure? That card has a 6-pin PCI-E power connector. If you have a 4-pin power connector plugged into it, then it is not getting enough power. (The 4-Pin connector is for powering the CPU on motherboards that need it.) – Darth Android Jun 8 '11 at 21:09
Oh, my mistake lol, yeah it's a 6pin adapter which is plugged in at the moment. – Josh Jun 8 '11 at 21:20
If I were you, I would get a good power supply tester, or maybe even try swapping the power supply to see if that fixes the issue. – francisswest Jun 8 '11 at 21:23
