I used Google to find this.

Data Encryption - When using web apps on a Chromebook, all important data is stored safely in the cloud. Certain kinds of files, like downloads, cookies, and browser cache files, may still be present on the computer. The Chromebook encrypts this data using tamper-resistant hardware, making it very difficult for anyone to access those files.

There's a very detailed description of the encryption mechanism for cached data here.

An even more professional tip: do not condescend to people, particularly to users with a decent amount of rep and badges, reflecting that they’re not stupid and already know a thing or two about computers. Instead of linking to the Google homepage, you would have been less insulting if you had linked to the results page to show what search terms you used to find the second page. (Even I can’t find a query that will find it with Google.) I guarantee that you did not teach Jader about Google, but you did miss the opportunity to teach him a better search query than he had already tried. – Synetech Jun 12 '11 at 3:53

That’s not an obvious step at all. I’m sure that Jader probably did what I did and tried some queries in Google like chromebook stolen, cr-48 cache, etc. Besides, even at the Chromebook support site, I still can’t find that specific page, at least not without searching for unique words and phrases specifically from the page. The path you took to get there is not nearly as obviously or easy to find as you think it is. – Synetech Jun 12 '11 at 5:35

Google Chromebook (this is what we want to learn about) -> Support Page (because we need support) -> FAQ (seems like this would be a frequently asked question) -> Enterprise administration help (because enterprises want encryption) -> Security Overview. – ta.speot.is Jun 12 '11 at 6:24

And what does all that have to do with a Google search? The way you pointed to Google implied that doing a Google search would have given the required information in the first page of results. What you did was not in fact just a Google search, Googling was just a first step in a much more involved search; exactly the sort of thing that someone would ask for help on. Therefore, your remark was uncalled for; it’s usually for when someone asks an easy question that can be answered with the first hit. Besides, who mentioned enterprise or said it’s a FAQ? You made mental leaps that the OP did not. – Synetech Jun 12 '11 at 7:03

No, that was not the leap; not at all. Once again you are condescending and assuming that people are stupid enough to not know about Google. Even my mother who has never used a computer knows about Google. Assuming that it was a FAQ (which I highly doubt to be the case regardless of if it has a roundabout link through the FAQ page) and then jumping to enterprise (which I suspect is not Jader’s usage) were the leaps. – Synetech Jun 12 '11 at 14:29
