On my WHS 2011 server named "MEDIA-SRV", I have a shared folder named "Music" and a user named "HTPC". For the folder permissions, I have HTPC set as Read/Write and HomeGroup users set as Read.
From the client machine, logged on locally as HTPC, I join the HomeGroup. Then, I try to navigate to \MEDIA-SRV\Music. I try to create a folder, but it won't let me (Access denied).
If I set the HomeGroup users folder permission to None, I can no longer navigate to \MEDIA-SRV\Music. If I set it to Read/Write, I can create the folder.
Is there any way I can prioritize connecting to my WHS 2011 server as "HTPC" instead of as a HomeGroup user and still stay connected to the HomeGroup?
