I have an HP OfficeJet 8500A Plus that is set to manually receive faxes.

I was wandering if there is a way so that when the phone rings and I pick up another extension in my house and its an incoming fax to tell the 8500A to pick up and answer - without having to go to the machine itself.

e.g. by dialing something at the other extension, say *99 or something like that.

You'll need to look into electronics or devices that fit this task, perhaps a telephone central. This is off-topic and not about computers or printers that interface with computers anymore. – Tom Wijsman Jun 15 '11 at 23:27
fair enough, I was not aware that this is considered to be of topic as I think of my 8500A as my printer and it is connected to my computer. but you are right that what I am looking for does not necessarily involve my computer. – epeleg Jun 19 '11 at 7:38
