Basically Information Technology is the study (and use) of digital technology to solve problems in business, and more generally the traditional home consumer.

The technology generally comes in the form of computers, but is not limited to just that. Also the technology is often used to handle large amounts of data (from Internet to data stored in company databases).

At my job, if it has buttons,lights, batteries, wires, a screen, or anything electronic... its IT, or at least its IT's responsbility to fix.

RIT's definition is the user end of the software development spectrum. Here, IT majors are taught to make good graphical user interfaces and support software. There are also networking specialists who are taught how to do networking and security professionals, who are taught how to build secure networks. RIT was the first university to have a degree program in Information Technology in 1992.

Information is very important to people. People are always looking for more information. They want to know what movies are showing at the local theater or what the weather will be like on Tuesday or what a cat would say if he were in ur emailz deletin ur spam.

Information Technology experts use advances in science and technology to facilitate this quest for information. They create new systems to serve information to the public, or they use existing technology to deliver new information.

Information Technology is certainly the place where otherwise sane people go to test the limits of their own patience, the lengths of their creativity and a humble position when a loud and emberassing laugh is more appropriate.
