I am looking for software which can draw the ER diagrams and some UML modelling as well.

I am using windows 7 as operating system.

I don't have any database design yet i only want to draw diagram on paper so that i can show my friends

I've used mysql workbench, which is a bit of a memory hog, but useful when you have an existing db that you need to diagram. – slotishtype Jun 18 '11 at 10:10

Gliffy is a free online service you can use to draw some UML diagrams. I found it useful for sequence diagrams.
