I'm interested in writing the software that controls one of those event boards, you know the kind I'm talking about, like the status board that they have over at Panic. Anyways I'd like it to display the weather forecast, news, events things like that. What language would I be best off writing it in? Is it something that I should learn Javascript for? Can I do it in Python which I'm currently learning? As far as I can tell it can really be a bunch of webscripts that look pretty using CSS which I know already and display it in a browser window pretty much. At least that's how Panic described theirs. Any help or advice is appreciated.

In the event that I wanted to write it myself for practice and 'customizability' what would you suggest? – shadesandcolour Jun 19 '11 at 4:15
You can do it in Python - perhaps using web.py & style it using CSS – Sathya Jun 19 '11 at 5:03
