half pages of white space in a long document. no page breaks, no justified, no formatting marks...just white space so that when I go from one page to another it jumps down more than half the page before it will accept type.

What's going on?

Check to see if you have anything in the page header (try to double click near the top of the page to edit it). Also, please apply some of the spelling and grammar checks before you post something next time. We know you have them because you're using Word. ;) – Breakthrough Jun 22 '11 at 2:37
