This overlay (where the user icon would be):

Windows 7 Logon Screen

Is what I'm trying to find. I know Windows 7 and Windows Live Messenger both use it, so it must be somewhere. Does anyone know the file which contains this image?

@grawity: logonui.exe contains no icons and I already checked Messenger, it's not there... I actually already searched the entire system32 folder. – minitech Jun 27 '11 at 19:49
It's not an icon, it's a bitmap image. Check also all DLLs loaded by Messenger (Process Explorer can show you the list). – grawity Jun 27 '11 at 19:49

the icons can be all over the place. Here is an earlier answer with a list of places that store system icons.
