I am a small business with two locations and I have a retail software that must speak to the other location. I recently installed a new wireless router and now the port 20000 is being blocked. This is the port that the software uses. I have tried to forward the port and that does not work either. I have exhausted every idea that tech support could help with. I guess I want to know if putting the modem in bridge mode would solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

dlink router with motarola modem – glenn Jun 28 '11 at 16:39
I do not know for sure since this isn't my realm of expertise, but providing actual model numbers may help as well. – EBGreen Jun 28 '11 at 17:14
the dlink router is a dir-651 – glenn Jun 28 '11 at 18:14
does the router firmware provide port forwarding or are you using some tool ? – Shakehar Jun 28 '11 at 19:58
One way to link two offices is with a VPN between the two routers. So far as I can tell, the DIR-651 does not itself support VPN. – RedGrittyBrick Jun 28 '11 at 22:26
