Can a Belkin n300 USB wireless network adapter be used with aircrack/backtrack etc for cracking WiFi encryption?

Windows 7 on my laptop cannot pick up my signal as it is out of reach but my external usb adapter can. I can't get aircrack/backtrack to work with the adapter so it can't find the packets.

The network has WPA 2 encryption, so it is not as easy to crack as WEP. I've read numerous guides but can't find my answers.

What are you trying to do here? You know it's illegal in most jurisdictions to break into other people's wireless networks, right? – nhinkle Jul 5 '11 at 19:40

Have you determined the chipset that the Belkin uses and checked the Compatability Chart? Have not seen Belkin mentioned specifically but it may well use a common chipset Please post chipset and there may be a better answer.
