What are the best software for making windows image - like symantec ghost does. But the last the time I used ghost, I remember it being very slow, because every time it made an image, it wasn't incremental, and if you have about 200GB of used space on your machine, it can become pretty cumbersome. Not to mention, in order for ghost to work, you have to reinstall windows, reinstall ghost, and then restore from the image. I was looking for a more lightweight solution, that allows you to get backup quickly if the hardrive/computer dies.

Windows backup. Since windows XP, it can also do a compoets restore from within the Windows Setup program, so you don't need additional software

Not being a linux user this response might not carry much weight but I believe DriveImage-XML would be something that would be worth looking into. It can be ran from either a windows live disc or it can be ran from inside of windows while it is currently running.
