Until recently on my Windows 7 HP machine, in any browser (Chrome,Firefox,IE64 v9, IE32 v9, Opera, etc...) I used to be able to click in my mouse wheel and pan up and down the web pages. It's much easier for me to do that than scrolling the mouse wheel.

However recently, I can no longer press in the mouse wheel to scroll. Nor can I open links by clicking the mouse wheel.

I'm sure some 3rd party program is the culprit and I've removed anything recently installed but I'm still not having any luck. I've tried 4 different USB slots on the Dell USB Optical mouse and to no avail, the feature is simply gone. It's not under settings either.

I've reinstalled drivers, rolled back drivers and even loaded a previous version of Windows (which I hate doing by the way). I'm looking for a fix that doesn't involve wiping out my machine.

Is it possible your mouse wheel no longer works? Try using another mouse. – Nich Del Jul 10 '11 at 21:15
