Here's an oddity I've run across repeatedly over the last few months:

I'm running various Linux distributions on a year-old Toshiba laptop. My screen resolution is 1366 x 768. But sometimes when I boot up the resolution switches to 1024 x 768, or 800 x 600. When that happens,if I reboot the machine will sometimes switch back to 1366 x 768. If it doesn't I can manually change the resolution and I'll be okay... for a while.

This has happened under Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Puppy Linux, and Mint (and probably others, but I haven't kept a list), so I can't blame it on a particular distro.

My video hardware is Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).

What causes this, and how can I keep it from happening?
