I saved a backup of the Windows Registry, edited the wrong value apparently and then tried to restore the original Windows Registry file, but even after restoring the original values, the laptop's battery is no longer detectable by the battery meter software. Also, when you go into the Control Panel -> Power Options, it says "Can't retrieve power information" under the available profiles.
I've downloaded all of the original driver software and manufacturer software from the laptop manufacturer's website (Asus) and installed it to no effect.
Only option left that I can think of is a Windows Repair Install but this may be too disruptive.
Are there any other options I've ignored?
