I have seen demos of Problem Step Recorder program that comes with Windows 7. It's an amazing little tool. Do we have similar tools for Windows XP? I know there are screen recording tools like CamStudio. But I'm looking for something light-weight.

The Jing Project is a fairly light-weight annotated-screenshot & screen-movie maker. It can save to a local folder, FTP, email, or online via the required free account. It can also give you HTML code to embed the movie from wherever you upload it, after a bit of setup. (I think they hope to make money by selling additional space to people who want more than 2GB of storage & monthly downloads from their screencast.com web-storage option a lot.)

Faststone Capture all the way for me. It allows you to record screen activities and sound into highly compressed video files.
Faststone Capture is shareware ($19.95), try before you buy. There's an older version available for free (v5.3) but it doesn't feature the screen recorder.

Try Camtasia. If you like the free trial as much as I did, you'll probably buy it.

I've found MWSnap is handy for taking screenshots (each time you hit a key combo you specify, it dumps the screenshot wherever you want. Highly configurable IIRC.) Very lightweight, < 1 MB.

You're asking for recording and not an image screen capture. Right? To record what's happen on the screen and edit this record I suggest you WINK
