Is there a free tool that I can download somewhere to convert .lit files and .epub files to .pdf on my PC?

This might not be exactly what you're looking for but Calibre will convert files to and from a variety of eBook formats, including ePUB. However it is more of an iTunes for eBooks, not a file converter. | |||||

Instead of converting, I would suggest using a proper eBook reader. Unlike PDFs, your EPUB books are reflowable. That means the content can adjust to fit whatever screen you read it on, whether it's a PC, smartphone, or a tablet. You can also adjust font sizes, or even switch the colors so the page is black and the text is white (great for reading in the dark). Here's some suggestions for reading eBooks on a desktop:
