There are quite a few companies that offer their software in this fashion:

  1. Download our program.
  2. Run it on your computer and it will determine which files you need, and download THOSE additional files, and install our software on your computer.

But how do I get that to work from a computer that doesn't have Internet access?

I can do step #1 from a friend's computer and put it on CD, and move it to my machine.

But step #2 is impossible without a network connection.

Or is it?

(Some companies offer stand-alone installers, as well as web installers... but many ONLY offer the web installer method.)

Is this a linux/unix dependencies issue? – MaxMackie Jul 25 '11 at 19:10
Care to be a bit more specific? Are you talking about Windows? Are you talking about deploying your own solution or some concrete software that you need to install? – slhck Jul 25 '11 at 19:24
You might find better luck asking if there's a stand-alone installer for the software package you're looking for. The other piece of terminology you're looking for is a "web installer". – Darth Android Jul 25 '11 at 19:39

Telling us what apps you're trying to install, what OS you're using, and other pertinent details can help us provide a much better answer. – music2myear Jul 25 '11 at 20:17

You can't install software that's designed to only be installed from the internet without an internet connection.

I like this answer. Plus, it is possible you miss something trying to duplicate their install process. – surfasb Jul 27 '11 at 0:13

In theory, you don't really need an installer. If you could keep track of all the files and registry keys/config file changes that were added during the install and their locations (using something like process monitor, if this is for windows) you could do a "manual install." It would probably be painful, but in most cases, its possible.

Have you tried installing to a flashdrive and copying it over?
