There is a tool for Mac's called FolderWatch. I wanted to have something like that but for Windows 7 machine. Does anyone know of a utility of a tool like that. The idea is that both folders will have the latest changes from either folder.

I want this tool to run constantly and continue to sync the two without my prompting. Sort of run in the background.

Kind of like Dropbox but for two folders on the same PC.

One more aspect is that I don't want to have to synch manually. As in I don't want to initiate a synch. I want the changes to synch up automatically like dropbox with out my prompting. For example I installed SynchToy which was very slick but didn't have this ability of automatic synching. Or atleast I couldn't figure out how to enable it if it has it.

It is in those questions for the most part but those solutions do not address the automatic behavior I'm looking for. The tools suggested require the user to initiate the synch. – Saviz Jul 27 '11 at 0:39
I'm looking for the same thing. The Dropbox comparison is spot-on. None of the solutions in the other questions or the answers below provide true real-time synchronization. – Yuck Sep 22 '11 at 20:22

have you looked at SyncToy?

SyncToy combined with creating a Windows Scheduled Task that runs very often would do the trick. – Chad Jul 26 '11 at 21:22
disadvantage of SyncToy is that it creates files in each directory – juFo Mar 20 at 9:06

Use robocopy.exe with the /MON:1 /MIR options.

2 folders on the same PC? Look up how to create a junction point. Then you only have 1 copy of your data, but it's in two places

Try Rsync (Wiki). It is a very powerful tool that you can even use for synchronizing two remote folders. Its a *nix app but there are ports available for windows. Haven't used it but DeltaCopy is one such port. Or else you can use cygwin to run it on windows environment.

I use GoodSync. It's a bit pricy, but the functionality is great. Otherwise SyncToy is a great alternative.
