Possible Duplicate:
Best way to confidently search files and contents in Windows without using an indexing service?

Currently I am searching using windows search option .. "A Word or phrase in file" to search for the file containing particular content (a word or phrase) however, this option doesn't support any other format the *.txt.

I copied the contents to a folder and renamed the extension to *.txt to make use of it. But not happy with the performance.

Would you like to suggest me a good text searching tool which can scan through multiple folders and different file extentions to and get the result?

It's excellent but doesn't search file contents. – CGA Aug 2 '11 at 10:17

I wouldn't personally recommend this due to the huge amount of indexing that has to be done to keep track of all of the contents of files on the system. But either way; if you really want to do this, try using Google Desktop Search

You don't mention what Windows version you're using but you could try Windows Desktop Search. I'm using it at work and it actually works quite well and is able to index many file types.
