I used to use winbnc (which has totally vanished off the face of the internet) ages ago, and there's certain aspects of it that I can't seem to emulate on any other irc bnc software.

I basically want connect via a single logon to the bouncer, and from that connection, join a server/channel (as opposed to having a separate 'bouncer' account' per server as znc does), as opposed to maintaining a separate connection and account per irc server on the bouncer software.

I can run this on windows or linux, and i don't mind compiling it myself, so it dosen't need to be software for a specific distro of the latter.

Seems off topic to me. Unless you're talking about bouncer software to install on your own server. In its current state the question seems like its asking for hosted bouncer recommendations. – Wuffers Aug 3 '11 at 4:43
I'm asking for bouncer software to install on my own server - winbnc was a specific software package that worked exactly as i wanted it. Added OS preferences to clarify that the question is for a self hosted bouncer, as opposed to a hosted solution. – Journeyman Geek Aug 3 '11 at 5:22

Looks like your in luck - although the official site is gone, someone was still hosting it! Here is a copy, among some other older programs.

trying to set this up, but it seems a wee bit buggy in win7. will test, and accept if its the right answer, but a more modern alternative would prolly be the selected answer – Journeyman Geek Aug 6 '11 at 8:41
