Is there software that can tell me how far I have moved my mouse that doesn't eat up CPU and RAM?

I've seen this question asked before and I always have the same question, why do you want to know? – Col Aug 29 '09 at 12:58

because it's a cool stat to have. – Dan Walker Aug 29 '09 at 22:18
The How-To-Geek article title (see Shane's answer) is prefixed appropriately enough: Stupid Geek Tricks :) – Jonik Aug 29 '09 at 23:02

How-To Geek recently did a page on this here. I've not had a chance to try it myself.

Mousotron is a little application that measures not just how far you’ve moved your mouse, but also your keystrokes, mouse button clicks, and even the scroll wheel usage. It lives in the system tray, but it also has a widget that displays on the desktop.

My Mouse Meter is a free and useful program which calculates the range, your mouse cursor passes across the screen, when you move your mouse on a mousepad. Range displayed in kilometers, meters, inches and feet. It can also calculate mouse clicks and keystrokes number.

Workrave also records mouse movements, and keyboard activity.

Among its many useful features, pitachio includes a few toys like this.

Its mouse distance counter measures pixels travelled by the mouse cursor rather than trying to extrapolate any physical mouse movement measurement, so it might not be what you are looking for.

It also measures how often each major mouse button and alphabetic key on the keyboard is pressed, proving that I don't type xxx more than I type www!

Install Windows 98 SE and grab the Plus! pack. It has this functionality OOB.

Edit: Ooh, you wanted to be able to still USE your computer as well? Never mind...
