My Wi-Fi is working fine on Windows. But on Ubuntu I am not able to switch the wireless on using the hardware switch. On my computer, the switch for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are the same. But when I try to switch them on, Bluetooth switches on for 5 seconds and goes off. Wi-Fi never even switches on. This problem is only in Ubuntu. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem?

Have you installed the correct drivers? Most open source WiFi drivers don't work very well, so you'd normally get the proprietary ones which must be approved (if automatically detected for you) or installed manually. – billc.cn Aug 6 '11 at 3:52
