My company is looking into using OMR to sort their outgoing mail and using a mail inserter to kick out batches of 1-6 sheets in a single envelope continuously. Unfortunately, the application that we use (Bloodhound Collection Software) does not give us any control over the format of the document.

What we need to do is to shrink (physically) the file so that it takes up less space in the right margin to fit 2, Bold-Underscore marks, 4 characters in length, and with 1 line of space vertically

Yes the companies that sell the mail inserters offer the software to do this (but at a pricetag of $8,000-$12,000) on top of the price of the mail inserter itself ($6,000-$10,000). So we're looking to at least get rid of the cost of buying a proprietary software just to insert marks on document for their hardware to read.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I've checked out the Open Source OMR applications, but they deal mainly with Test Taking forms for the education community.
