My natty machine crashes whenever I activate any network interface in Virtualbox 4.0.10 (including paravirtualized network on host-only adapter)

Same results from virtualbox ose and Oracle's virtualbox.

The natty x86_64 machine is a Dell L702X (xps2630Q).

Virtualbox runs OK on other natty machines on our network (using same copy of maverick x86 HardDisk), but my machine can only run it with all network interfaces disabled in the virtualbox Settings->network...This happens with either guest maverick x86 or guest Windows XP (host is natty x86_64)

Suggestions?

Sounds like a driver issue. Do the other machines on your network use the same network driver?
