Are there any (Linux/KDE) apps that can check your ical-like calendar, and show a color, change a wallpaper, or run a command based on which event you're in, or when the time moves into a new event?

I may need to explain this.

I'm trying to get organised beyond GTD-like task management, by going back to school-like blocks of allocated time -- a timetable. I'd like to keep this info in an iCal-like digital calendar, with recurring items, one-of items, etc.

So, much like a bell went off at the end of class, and I moved to a new class which was visibly different in location/context, I'd like some notification on my computer, and perhaps a little color box in the system tray or similar, to remind me of what's current.

Anyone done something like this, or know a way that works?
