I keep seeing people in the forums refering to the *.vbox file of their VM, but I don't see the file anywhere within my own installations.

My hunch is that they've changed the name of the file to <Machine-Name>.xml but I'm not sure about that.

No, I still see it: enter image description here

Maybe you're not looking in the right place?

I see a file called : WordpressThemeDevBox.xml and another called WordpressThemeDevBox.xml-prev, in the %USERPROFILE%\.VirtualBox\Machines\WordpressThemeDevBox directory, that seems pretty similar... – leeand00 Aug 31 '11 at 1:49
So are they the same thing? – leeand00 Aug 31 '11 at 17:37
For a while there I was thinking that it had something to do with if you were running Windows or Linux, but it appears that you're running Windows.... :-p – leeand00 Aug 31 '11 at 20:22
Yes, Windows 7 x64 host. Is it not in the same folder as the .vdi file? – bfhd Aug 31 '11 at 21:34
Right, this was by choice. But I also don't have .vbox files I have .xml files instead (although they seem to serve the same purpose). – leeand00 Sep 1 '11 at 3:33
