I recently lost my laptop's (a Lenovo X201t running Win Ultimate (64-bit) entire Bluetooth capabilities. The issue started when Windows Update offered me an optional "Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II v6.2.1.3100 (7ZBV19WW)" upgrade. That update first removed the existing Bluetooth SW and then started to install the new version. Towards the very end of the installation (i.e. when the progress bar had almost reached 100%) suddenly the following popup appeared:

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32 policy",version="8.0.50727.42",
publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64"'.

Please refer to Help and Support for more information.
HRESULT: 0x800736FD. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem,
function: Commit, component: {51B6FD4C-6551-1104-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}

I tried to re-install several times since, rebooted before trying again and what not - all to no avail. I googled around for fragements of the above error message but appearently this signals some non-trivial problem. Some threads I found came to the conclusion, that some registry entries don't have the correct permissions, in most others the discussion yielded, that something had gone awry with the .NET subsystem and that some .NET libraries (most listed some "MS Visual C++ 200x Redistributable" as culprit) were conflicting or had been corupted or gotten into some inconsistent state.

I tried misc. hints given in those threads but none worked so far, thus I am asking here:

  • What does this error really mean? Any idea anybody?
  • Can one somehow deduct from the info in the above message, what to do or where to search for?
  • How can I locate or identify the library or component (or whatever) that is causing this, so that I can try to de- or re-install it first to hopefully fix this?

I am really in need of my bluetooth capability! I regularly use that to sync with my mobile phone (besides loving to listen to music on my BT headphones) and I hate it, that these functions don't work any more!
