My 5 year old laptop has served me well and now its time to put it to rest. So i have started to explore my options. I'm a web designer with a mild addiction for games. I already have a PS3 but there are some games that I just don't wanna miss on PC. I'm ok with low graphic quality as long as the game runs smoothly.

I need a unix environment for my workspace and have been using ubuntu as a dual boot for a while but the lack of Adobe applications is a huge downer right now. So let me write my train of though:

  • An iMac seems like a decent way but way out of my range, can't afford that.(especially here in Turkey)

  • I would be ok with the a PC despite the lack of Adobe in Ubuntu but the prices are reaaally high for a decent system here + I already have a 1080p philips tv and a smaller one in my study room and it would be nice to not pay and manage space for a monitor and speakers and instead make use of the existing tvs. I guess I would need a high end vc or a mainboard with hdmi audio support and a rather lightweight tower to do that.

Question 1: Where can I buy computer parts online from? Shipping to Turkey would be a plus. I would like to spend around 700$-800$ on my new computer. Also for reference, a "Core i5 2320 Socket 1155 3.0GHz 6MB Cache 32nm" is sold for 200$ here, tax included.

  • Mac Mini with the i5 and hd 6630 seems like a great option since even with the shipping from US, it looks like it is still cheaper and more powerful than all the pcs or laptops of the same price here + highly mobile and comes with hdmi ports.

Question 2: Obviously, I'll be using boot camp to install a Windows to play games. Would there be any performance losses?

Question 3: How would the performance be effected if I tried to play games at 1080p?

Question 4: What would you do if u were in my shoes?

This question is likely to be closed as it is basically flame/troll/apple vs pc debate bait. Saying that, I would prefer a PC, while my brother has a MacBook Pro with Windows 7 Bootcamp'd which plays games perfectly well. At the end of the day it's up to your personal preference. – tombull89 Sep 8 '11 at 11:17
Not trolling, thats why I asked specific questions and not a simple "mac or pc" question. For the record, I use a mac in the office and a vista/ubuntu dual boot at home. I'm certainly not a fanboy of either. – Ege Sep 8 '11 at 11:22

It's specific, but you're asking a very broad question (even with four subquestions). This is hard to answer. However, the real issue is that we can't make the decision for you. Also, your question is very localized in the sense of it being useful to you only. In a few months, it would be of no good use for anybody else, since hardware specifications and prices vary wildly, even between different countries. – slhck Sep 8 '11 at 11:30

That being said, "What would you do?" is not a good fit for the site either. "Where can I buy computer parts online from?" isn't as well. The performance of gaming in Boot Camp is analyzed in many benchmarks, which you can find by doing web searches on this subject. – slhck Sep 8 '11 at 11:32
Allright, my bad. Thanks for the pointers. – Ege Sep 8 '11 at 13:07
