I came to know about this website from a question on Askubuntu but I still cant open .dsk files with it. My file which contains the data of my OS is named as root.dsk.

But i cant open it with explore2fs-1.07.

Can anyone please help me out?

Use this http://ext2read.blogspot.com/ and point it at the root.disk (not .dsk)

Did you download this: ext2explore-2.2.71.zip (I just did and my antivirus doesn't complain about it). I got it from here: sourceforge.net/projects/ext2read/files/… – bcbc Sep 10 '11 at 7:22

Information provided here, referring to the WinImage software may be useful for you.

http://www.ehow.com/how_7311690_restore-file-dsk-extension.html

This seems not to be related to Ubuntu but if you are trying to do that in Ubuntu you may wish to give it a try under Wine, which may fail if not find all the requirements for that software fully satisfied.

Additional information on .DSK Files can be found here: http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/dsk Which seems to be more related to Mac and MS Based systems.

A list of software that is able to open .DSK Files can be found here: http://extension.nirsoft.net/dsk

Good luck!
