I've discovered there's an abundance of different variants of Syntaptics touchpad drivers, all with different annoying features. When installing Windows 7, I first tried the proper, latest Synaptic drivers from their website, but it was incredibly annoying as it disabled two button click => middle click. So, I then tried a Dell-customised driver, which provides that function, but has a really annoying settings UI and scrolling doesn't seem to use the native mouse scroll method but rather one dependant on the driver (causing issues such as when the driver crashes, or when trying to use Microsoft's Mouse Without Borders).

Is there a driver for my synaptics touchpad that:

  1. Does the two button click -> middle click
  2. Has native scrolling
  3. Has the option of either two fingered scrolling or sidebar vertical/horizontal scrolling
  4. Supports tap-to-click

I'm not sure of the touchpad model, if that is an issue please provide a link to instructions on how to determine the model.

Is this touchpad of yours built-in to a laptop, or part of a keyboard or a standalone pad? And you're positive that the touchpad is by Synaptics? – sawdust Sep 13 '11 at 19:43
