What's the fastest internal hard drive on the market? I understand that SSD is slower on write but super fast on reads. What about 10k RPMs? Is that as fast as we've got now?

50% accept rate
RPMs are one factor. There's also the data transfer rates. Note that for many years Seagate SATA drives came with a jumper pre-installed that limited the speed to a maximum of 3G/s and removing it would supposedly allow for transfer rates of up to 6G/s (although I did notice an improvement in speed when transferring files that were multiple GBs in size, it wasn't double the speed, but the SATA controller surely would have been a factor too). – Randolf Richardson Sep 23 '11 at 23:20

Apparently, the only drives that get close to saturating the 6 gb/s bandwith of Sata 3 are SSD- Some get up to 500-600 mb/s with sata 3s.They arn't slower on write, but they wear out. Depending on your needs/budget, there's also drives than hang off PCIE, that are faster.
